Hey
guys sorry it has been so long. I started student teaching and that has been
taking up all my time. If I'm not in school I'm working on something for that.
Now onto the reason for this post the new rules they have for this season. I
can understand where some people are frustrated and feel Brian France is
killing the sport. However I applaud the sport for trying to improve and people
complained a lot because the JGR cars could sit back the whole race at
Talladega and still advance to the next round. I understood why they did that
but I didn’t enjoy watching my driver ride around not giving himself a chance
to win. Now NASCAR implemented the stages and people are freaking out because
of the amount of wrecks at Daytona. Saying that someone is going to get killed
racing that way. On the cup side though almost all the wrecks were after the
first two stages, after the crazy pit strategy. I feel like the stage racing
didn’t cause the crashes in the cup race. For the other two races I think they
did play a part. I also think it’s silly to judge rules after one race. I like
the idea of stages and getting bonus points if you were running well early on.
I think it will be better this weekend at Atlanta. The pit stops caused some craziness
and I'm not sure if I liked that part of the stage racing but I'll be
interested to see if that still happens this weekend or not. So overall for me I
like the stage racing but I am not going to say if I think there are improvements
that need made to it until I've watched it for a while. Onto the other rule the
crash damage rules. I understand again why NASCAR is doing what they did.
However there will still be pieces that fly off. I disagree that drivers didn’t
finish higher then 35 with a damage car. At a lot of tracks that may be the
case but at restrictor plate racing with as many cars as usually crash out I
think they can get higher if they were able to fix it. I also have seen some
cars with not bad issues that they couldn’t drive to the garage but might have
been able to be fixed. I also think it is incredible how fast the crews were
able to make repairs. However I do worry that they are making repairs that
might not be the safest just to get their driver out before the 5 minute clock expires.
So I'm not a huge fan of those rules. However with that said I know part of it
is my personality but I think it is silly to just decide to quit watching
NASCAR because you don’t like a rule change. Even if I decide that I
don’t like either rule change I will continue to watch NASCAR because I love
the sport. I am excited to see how it plays out tomorrow. What are your
opinions on the new rules and sorry again for the lack of posts but my big
project for student teaching ends soon so maybe i will have a bit more time to
post then.
